Information for Getting to and around the University of Massachusetts
Conference Room
We will meet every day in the Alumni Lounge, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center.
Please note that the ground floor is the Lower Level (LL), followed by the Upper Level (UL), and then the 2nd floor.
Public Transportation
The subway (or “T”) line and stop that serves the University of Massachusetts Boston is the Red Line JKF/UMass stop.
If you plan to use the subway or bus often, you might consider getting a CharlieCard, which is available at South Station, 7-11s, and Star Market supermarkets. You can find more information here: https://www.mbta.com/fares/charliecard-and-charlieticket-online-services.
Bike sharing services are also available. Bluebikes hubs are located at JFK/UMass station and in front of the Campus Center.
Shuttle Bus
The best way to get on and off campus is via the Shuttle Bus, which runs regularly between the JFK/UMass station and several points on campus. This service is FREE.
If you arrive by subway, walk up the stairs in the middle of the platform, through the turnstiles, and take a right across the catwalk to the stairs. Once you walk down the stairs you will find the stop for the Shuttle Bus Route 1 (the only one). The shuttle makes stops at both the Dorms and the Campus Center, where the institute will take place.
The shuttle runs Monday–Friday, 5:30am–1:15am. The last bus departs JFK/UMass Station at 1:15am.
Parking
Parking is $15 per day or for any duration over 3 hours. You will also be charged an additional $10 for overnight parking, bringing it to a grand total of $25 per day.
Further, you will get charged extra if you take your car out and return the same day. So, for example, say you park on campus at 9am and head out at 12pm for lunch, come back and leave the car parked for the rest of the day. You will be charged $11 for initial 3 hours, plus $15 for the remainder of the day, and an additional $10 for overnight parking.
There are several lots on campus, which are all indicated on the campus map linked below. Please note that the lot closest to the dorms is Lot D.
Off-campus parking is extremely limited and most requires a permit.
Taxis or Rideshare Services
Given how isolated our campus from the rest of the neighborhood of Dorchester, and the city of Boston more generally, we recommend using a rideshare service or taxi to when going out for lunch and/or dinner.
If using ride-share services, pickup and drop-off points are clearly marked behind the Campus Center (Campus Center South).
